What is a dietitian?

Registered Dietitians (RDs) are the only qualified health professionals who assess, diagnose and treat diet and nutrition problems at an individual and wider public health level. Uniquely, dietitians use the most up to date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease, which they translate into practical guidance.

The term Dietitian is protected, which means only an individual who has completed an undergraduate degree or post-graduate diploma can legally describe themselves as a dietitian.

RDs are the only nutrition professionals to be statutorily regulated and governed by an ethical code, to ensure they always work to the highest standard. RDs are registered with the independent Health Care Professions Council and our team can be found when entered into the search facility on this website. Our team are also members of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and the Freelance Dietetics Group.

RDs are also required to maintain a high level of continued professional development ensuring that the advice provided is up to date and correct.
